Access requires valid Ngorongoro Conservation Area and crater permits. Lemala (Sopa) supports both descent and ascent; the road is steep and requires an appropriate 4x4. Current NCAA visitor guidance gives normal driving 06:00–18:00 and a 16:00 crater-descent cutoff, but its sentence repeats "close" for 18:00. Do not treat 18:00 as permission to descend. Confirm the direction-specific gate timetable with NCAA; allow the required crater activity and exit before closure. A single bidirectional operating-period field cannot express this distinction, so no universal gate period is asserted here.
