The Tana River Delta in Kenya is a highly significant, biodiverse, and fragile ecosystem located at the mouth of the Tana River, the longest river in Kenya (\(1,000\text{ km}\) or \(621\text{ mi}\)). The delta, which starts around 30 km upstream from the ocean, serves as a crucial Ramsar Site, representing the second-most important estuarine and deltaic ecosystem in Eastern Africa.

Biodiversity and Habitats: The delta encompasses a diverse range of habitats, including mangrove forests, freshwater and brackish wetlands, floodplain grasslands, riverine forests, and sand dunes. It is a critical habitat for endangered wildlife, including the Tana River mangabey, Tana River red colobus, and the African elephant.

Birdlife: As part of the Asian–East African Flyway, the delta is a key feeding and wintering ground for numerous migratory waterbirds, including waders, gulls, and terns.
