Elevated high above the plains on the Ngorongoro Crater's jagged rim, cloaked in river stone and indigenous vines, Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is barely visible to the naked eye. Framed by arched stone passages and timbered decks, its torch-lit walls are adorned with stylized cave paintings, and a glowing fire burns constantly at the stone heart of the lodge. The 74 guest rooms and suite loop around the Crater rim, each with its own rock-enclosed balcony and uninterrupted views of the volcanic amphitheatre below, home to the highest concentration of lions in Africa alongside elephants, rhinos, and wildebeest. The Main Restaurant is designed in traditional Tanzanian stone-built style with a glowing fireplace and cave-painting-adorned walls, opening onto a terrace with panoramic Crater views. Signature experiences include the Crater Breakfast (a game drive descent to the crater floor for a cooked breakfast), sundowners on the Crater rim, and bush dinners with Maasai morans.
